The Wiedenhoeft family has been scuba diving
together since 1999. It all started when Ken and Josephine vacationed
at a diving lodge on the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia. Ken received
his certification a long time ago, but had been absent from diving
for many years. Jo, on the other hand, was new to it all. It took
only some curiosity and a little encouragement from Ken before Jo
gave scuba diving a try a few months later. She received her certification
off the coast of Java. Soon after, they began to dive continuously
in the tropic waters along the southeastern islands of Indonesia,
forgetting that their permanent address is really back in the U.S.
Around the same time, Dody enrolled
in an open-water course offered through his college just for fun.
Unfortunately, like many other students, he took his certification
at a quarry lake in the middle of farmland Pennsylvania, during
winter. Needless to say, he was missing out for a while. When
he finally went to Indonesia to dive properly, he had a blast.
Though he continued to be silly and dove in cold quarry lakes
afterwards, he still cherishes the outstanding beauty of the warm
ocean.
Rina was the last to become certified
in the family. School, career, and student loans kept her from
diving for a while. However, when offered to dive in the warm
waters of Indonesia, she accepted without hesitation. It is a
little known secret that once upon a time she was actually a fish.
She got hooked to scuba in no time. She was mesmerized by the
sublime underwater beauty and immediately took off to do another
trip closer to home.
As a family, they have been fortunate
to experience diving together. Jo has been busy with underwater
photography as shown in TW galleries, while Ken has taken up underwater
videography. Rina is the land photographer whenever she's present,
but is slowly developing curiosity for the underwater stuff. Dody
somehow gets stuck carrying extra accessories for Jo. The family
has many stories to tell, and obviously many pictures & videos
to show of what glimpses Neptune has revealed of his world. Tropic
Waters is simply a way to share what little they have seen and
perhaps even a way to invite those who already have the curiosities
to venture into the blue. They welcome you and ask you to tell
your own stories in their guest book. Dive right in!
We've been busy working on Putiraja, our diving & leisure schooner. Click the link to find out more about it and we hope you'll be diving with us in the future!
